I presented at the 2008 Tourism Industry Conference on behalf of my employer Shift in July of this year.

Modified versions were also given at the Hawkesbay Tourism conference and the Northland Tourism conferences in September.

For this conference I was asked by the organiser to present 10 tips for improving return on investment for tourism websites. I turned this on its head and presented 10 things I learnt from the offline tourism industry that could be applied to any website. As part of my process I undertook a weekend of local tourism and generated a large number of photographs of myself taking part in activities. I then presented 10 tips, each written on a postcard and accompanied by one of the photographs, and an online example and means of implementing the tip cheaply. I concluded by announcing a website, www.postcardofideas.com that attendees could go to and submit their postal address – to which I would send an actual post card with the 10 tips detailed on it.

10 Tips slideIf you’re interested in this presentation I can supply slides and speaker notes. And if you’re interested in having me present it again then get in touch.
